10/12/15 – Angelica Lagasca, a senior IB student, was awarded the National Gold Medal for Poetry in the 2015 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in March of 2015. She received her medal at the National Events at the Carnegie Hall in New York on June 12, 2015. The Scholastic Awards are the nation’s largest, longest-running, most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative teens. Over the course of its 92-year history, Scholastic Awards recipients have included celebrated authors and artists including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Ken Burns, Zac Posen, Lena Dunham, Robert Redford and Joyce Carol Oates. Of the 300,000 submissions to the awards this year only 1% received a National Medal for various categories, and among those who won for poetry, only 35 were chosen as Semi-Finalist Nominees for the National Student Poets Program. Angelica was one of the 35. Congratulations Angelica!
