2016-09 – Drew Adams is a sophomore in the IB program. He’s president of the school’s GSA, and this past May, he was selected for the GLSEN National Student Council. Only 18 students nationwide were chosen for this council out of more than 700 applicants and a multi-step application process. All 18 council members were flown to Washington, DC in July for a week long media and policy training. For the 2016-2017 school year, Drew will be helping GLSEN at the local and national level to make schools safe spaces for LGBTQ students and to fight bullying and discrimination against youth. More information about the council and profiles of the 18 students can be found on the GLSEN website http://www.glsen.org/blog/18-lgbtq-youth-who-are-changing-world
This past summer Drew also got to be a part of a WNYC radio podcast and a segment on NPR’s Morning Edition about the Duke Gender Clinic.
