Dear Mr. Dresback,
Last Sunday, after Church, I stopped by the Villa Flora on St. George Street, where I assist one of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of St. Augustine. The Sisters themselves were evacuated and I wanted to assess the damage incurred by Matthew.
Let it suffice to say that oak tree limbs, palm fronds, mulch and muck were everywhere. I did not know where to begin.
I do believe that angels came upon the scene!!! Five or six young people had come to town to “help.” Apparently, they had seen some Church ad on Social Media, suggesting that able bodied folk head into St. Augustine to lend a hand.
Sara Loving, her brother, four or five others and one a middle-schooler came to the rescue. Words fail in trying to tell how quickly, efficiently and effectively they worked! I was staggered, to say the least.
I believe it was Sara’s brother…not sure who assisted, who removed the muck and mulch from the courtyard. The mess had completely covered the cement. They raked it away allowing easy access to the dried dirt the next day…Another angel from the St. Joseph Academy Community came to blow the courtyard and surrounding areas on Monday.
I gave the students’ name to the Superior General of the Sisters, Sister Jane Stoecker. I am sure she will be writing to Sara whose name was among those who signed a paper for me. I believe Sara’s address is the address she will use to acknowledge their kindness. It was a Den Street address. I believe it was 2412.
Since I do not have the paper with the students’ names in my possession just now, I am trusting that you will identify those students and extend my heartfelt thanks. They made Nease High School look terrific!
Someone is doing something right!! Those young people give us hope for the future!!! I am a retired educator of 41 years.. Those young people energized me to the point that I think I ran on adrenalin until today!!!
Just had to let you know! Take a bow Nease High School! The world will be a better place for your being here!!!
